Everyone knows that things have gotten a little crazy in the economy lately. A year ago therapy providers around the country would hire a therapist in nearly any capacitiy; contract, travel, permanent or prn. Well, a year later there are certainly options out there for physical, occupational and speech therapists for travel and contract jobs but there has been a strong push for permanent hiring and stability.
If you are a traveling therapist then you may have to be more flexible than ever before. This means that you might have to work in a setting that you don’t prefer, work in a city you don’t really prefer or other trade off’s due the current environment. If you want to be a traveler then you have the same considerations and must be flexible for a period of time.
If you want a permanent position then now is a good time to be looking as providers are likely to go the permanent route vs. contract or travel right now. The other thing to consider is patience. You can and should find the right job and don’t jump just to jump.
Demand for physical, occupational, and speech therapists has still generally be solid despite the downturn. We still have hundreds of openings for travel and permanent therapists throughout the country but particularly strong demand in Florida, Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and California.
